Compost Available

Do you need some nice black compost for your flowers or garden?

The Village DPW has the compost.

The compost is not available for re-sale but is available to Village Residents at no charge.

No Charge for Compost

If you are interested contact the DPW. 352-7473

They put a lot of effort into making the compost and would like you to make use of it.

Brush and Leaves

Pay particular attention to the days scheduled for brush and leaf pickup.

If you wait until the DPW has passed by before you decide to move your brush or leaves to the curb you will probably have to wait for the next scheduled date. Please insure that all tree butts face the road and are no longer than six feet and no more than 6 inches in diameter, to insure that they can be picked up.

Spring leaf pickup will be bag’s only.

Bags for leaf pickup must be clear and are available for a fee at Cantwell’s, Leppinks, and Mission Lumber.

The DPW will only pickup clear bags.

Hydrant Flushing

Note the two times that hydrant flushing will be conducted. Residents should check their water for redness prior to washing clothes. The redness is not harmful. It may however stain your clothes. If redness occurs please flush your lines for a few minutes, it should clear up.

Dates are April 27 and October 12, beginning at 10:00 PM.

Road Projects

In 2004 Village Council committed to funding a major project with local dollars. Edgar Street and Park Drive were replaced. In order to reduce costs, the Village Manager Wally Delamater, and his staff conducted the project inspection and administration. We are fortunate to have a manager who has the skill, knowledge and dedication to mange such a large project. This saved the village taxpayer a large amount of public funds. Good Job! Wally.

Prior to the project the lake drain, a county drain, which runs under Park Drive failed and caused the road to buckle. This made it necessary to replaced the lake drain under Park Drive as a part of the project. An expense that was not expected or wanted, but on the positive side we were glad it failed prior to rebuilding the road rather than later.

We also updated and relocated a 4" watermain to an 8" to accommodate DPW and Fire Department addition and replaced 500’ of 8" sewer line.

The project at times took a life of its own and continually attempted to spiral out of control. The Village Staff stayed focused and was determined. As a result we were rewarded with wonderful results. The DPW and Fire Department Really appreciate the improvement in front of their building.

The Village Council and Staff would like to say thank you for your patience and understanding to those citizens that had to endure this project most of the summer. The Downtown Development Authority also needs to be recognized and thanked for their contribution of $75,000 for the paving on Park drive.

The 2005 construction season will not see any large projects conducted. We are beginning the planning stages of replacing First Street and conducting a Feasibility Study to improve the streets on the north side of Tamarack Lake.

The Winter of 2005 was very hard on many of our streets. We may have to adjust our priorities once a determination of street conditions can be made.
